MS Challenge Walk

Team Greykell and I would like thank all the supporters of the 2006 MS Challenge Walk. With your generous support the event earned over $750,000 towards fighting this devastating disease.

Our team consisted of 5 walkers, 1 super crew member and a whole bunch of volunteers who helped out throughout the 3-day event and hosted the best rest stop of the entire event.

While we tried to overcome our Team Procrastination nickname with pre-event meetings, we still ended up handing in our final fund raising dollars the night before the event.

Some of us have Live Journals and made some posts after the event. Here are links to some of the longer ones and some pictures.

2007 plans

Yep. We're doing it again! All of the walkers and I have signed up for the 2007 event and a number of friends are seriously thinking about joining us.

What is The MS Challenge Walk?

The MS Challenge Walk is a 3-day, 50-mile journey to the Nation's Capital to raise funds and awareness for the National MS Society and the more than 400,000 Americans living with the everyday challenges of multiple sclerosis.

Why am I participating?

I have this unpredictable disease. So does Greykell. We're tired of not knowing what the next symptom will be, when it will strike and how long it will last. We've met many other people with MS who we now consider friends. Though it is considered a non-fatal disease, we have friends who lost family members to it. For us, for them, we participate. Because we can. Because it's another way to thumb our noses at this disease. We will not give in. The rest of the team is participating because they have friends and relatives with MS and want to show their love and support by raising funds, awareness and walking.

Plus, Greykell and I are really getting tired of giving ourselves daily shots.

Will you be walking 50 miles?

No. I will not be walking, but my teammates will be. I'll be part of the Motorcycle support crew again and will be assisting with route support by patrolling the route, manning intersections and helping where needed. 2007 will be my 4th year as a crew member. Our start early with 7am crew meetings and don't end until the last walker enters the overnight or the route closes for the night. There are also multiple pre-event manditory meetings. It's a lot of work. But it's also been a total blast.

Instead of walking I ride because the walkers need me. If I'm ever told that they have too many motorcyclists I'll find another way to participate. Maybe I'll walk (hmm. If I can manage to go more than 2 months without injuring myself), or I'll find another crew role.

Donations

All walkers have a minimum goal of $1,500. For the past two years I've been a member of the "Super Crew" which meant that I had to raise the same $1,500 minimum. I hope to surpass that amount for 2007.

If you'd like to support me and Team Greykell you can MAKE A DONATION HERE. Or you can use this donation form and fax or mail it to me and I'll send it to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Checks and cash (in person only, please) are cheerfully accepted also.

For even more fun, join Team Greykell in the fight against MS. If you can't participate all weekend, consider volunteering part time or joining the pirates of Team Greykell at a rest area. There is a strong possibility that the team will be sponsoring a rest area at the MS Challenge Walk too!
