CAPP 311

A Review by Maria

Advanced Desktop Publishing (CAPP 311), was a money and time-waster. Midway through the semester I became very disenchanted with the course and the teacher. I wasn't learning anything new. The assignments were time consuming busy work, that didn't use any skills that I hadn't learned in CAPP 310 (the pre-req).

Then, in late November I learned from a student who had the same teacher for CAPP 310 that the teacher had given the exact same lectures and assigned the same assignments for that class. This infuriated me. If I wanted credit for something I already knew I would have taken the internet course - I already had the book so I wouldn't have had to shell out more money for it.

Another thing that really bothers me is the amount of class time the teacher missed. He has cancelled and missed 1/3 of the classes. If we miss more than 1 class we are docked. Two of these classes he blew off with no notice to the students. He had our email addresses and could have easily contacted us to give us the option of going to class to work on our assignments. I prefer to work on my assignments at home or work where I have a split keyboard and a height adjustable chair. I also prefer to use Macintosh computers vs the Windows machine at school.

The teaching assistant responded to our concerns by saying 'he's an easy grader'. But we aren't 18 year olds looking for an easy A. We are adults who are paying good money for this class and expect to learn something for our efforts. The only people who have benefited from this class were those who didn't take CAPP 310.
